Back in April VRfocus reported on new developer Impeller Studios forming from AAA developers who have previously worked on titles like, X Wing vs Tie Fighter, Crysis, Saints Row to name a few and who collectively have over 150 years experience within the videogame industry. Then in May, Impeller started a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the first title, Starfighter Inc.
Starfighter Inc’ lead designer is David Wessman who worked on the X Wing series wanted to make another space shooter in a similar vein to that series based around hardcore team-based PvP multiplayer space battles. The developers want to create a game where realism is done right, based on a hard science, zero-g experience where players can spin, tumble and strafe their way through a gritty frontier universe. Whilst giving players unparalleled customisation of their ship, from the chassis to the power-train to the cockpit layout.
Designed for PC, Impeller Studios also said that StarFighter Inc would be for virtual reality platforms, without naming which in particular. On the frequently asked questions page of the Kickstarter page do reveal that the company its VR equipment to the Oculus Rift (DK2) head-mounted displays (HMDs).
The Kickstarter campaign hoped to raise $250,000 by 6th June to meet its funding goals, unfortunately the campaign fell short of the target only raising $226,831.
But this isn’t the end as the developer posted on its website yesterday about a Starfighter Inc branded joystick giveaway along with these words “We’ll be sharing the latest information on Starfighter Inc.’s development, including our tech partners shortly”
VRFocus will follow any further announcements from Impeller regarding Starfighters Inc and its development.
