Texas-based Ghost Machine VR is easily one of the busiest developers working in virtual reality (VR) at the moment. Over the past year the developer has revealed, and even in some cases released, a wide range of VR videogames, including the likes of MotorSport Revolution, Final Strike, and Endless Dead. Just last week the studio revealed Invasion Force, a new turret-based shooter. Today, it’s launching both an Alpha and a Steam Greenlight campaign for a new VR flight simulation experience by the name of Warhawks: European Theatre.
The first trailer for Warhawks: European Theatre can be seen below. The title allows players to pilot an aircraft in some of the historic battles of World War 2, across maps that have been created using real satellite scans with geographic data. Players will be able to receive briefings on missions in a war room before heading out to battle over European villages. The Alpha version of the title costs $4.95 USD and features full support for the Oculus Rift’s second development kit, though the full version plans to support the HTC Vive as well.
“With the positional head tracking in virtual reality, flight sims are a perfect match for this new technology,” studio CEO Neal Nellans said of the launch. “The flight sim genre is on the verge of a massive resurgence due largely in part to the immersion of VR.
“We’ve already gotten our feet wet with flight sims developing another title, Final Strike. Warharks [sic] is a natural extension of our sim development, extending our knowledge base developed from our other titles,” he added. It’s not clear when the full version of Warhawks: European Theatre will launch at this point in time.
VRFocus will continue to follow the title closely, reporting back with any further updates on it.
