First Gear VR Consumer Launch Title Revealed

Resolution Games has today unveiled its first videogame, Solitaire Jester, for Samsung Gear VR. The virtual reality (VR) videogame will officially launch on the Oculus VR Store as a launch title for the consumer edition of the Gear VR later this year. Solitaire Jester is aiming to be the world’s first solitaire videogame to make use of VR and will debut at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Los Angeles, this week.

Solitaire Jester offers a virtual private library in which players can enjoy some time off, hanging out in front of a fireplace while playing a classic card game. The Jester, a small companion character hangs around on the desk to keep players company and cheer them on when they make good plays.

“We wanted to show that anything is possible when it comes to gameplay on VR. We were able to build this simple game while still expressing the full value of VR’s presence and great graphics with today’s smartphones. It also shows that VR games are not just for violent, hardcore games and instead can have a broad target audience who seek familiar gameplay that is easy to understand and get into – creating relaxing experiences,” said Tommy Palm, co-founder and CEO of Resolution Games.

“While Solitaire Jester is a great example of how extensive the games marketplace is on VR, it’s only one of many concepts we are working on across several different genres. We’ll be releasing more games that will continue to prove the possibilities for reaching a wide audience across all ages and multiple platforms of VR,” added Palm. “Our aim for now is to help fulfil the industry’s demand for content and do our part to drive adoption of VR by the mainstream. With our team’s nimble approach we’ll be able to experiment to see what consumers ultimately latch onto in VR.”

Solitaire Jester is the first videogame title officially confirmed to support the consumer launch of the Gear VR, which was revealed at the Game Developers Conference (GDC), San Francisco, to be later this year. VRFocus is on the show floor at E3 and will report back with any further details on Solitaire Jester.
