As virtual reality (VR) continues to grow in popularity, so too does the amount of community meetups centred on the technology. Successful meetups and events are regularly being hosted in the likes of San Francisco, Los Angeles and London, and now another show is set to take place in Dallas, Texas. The next Dallas VR Meetup has been scheduled to take place on 6th June 2015, with plenty to see and sample for those attending.
The event is hosted by Jim Vaughn and Trey Davis, who you may remember worked on an entry into last month’s Room-Scale VR Jam hosted by Owlchemy Labs. The pair worked on Colonel Apple Pie Jones, a short experience for the HTC Vive in which users operated a laser. This experience will be on offer at the Dallas VR Meetup, albeit running on the Oculus Rift’s second development kit (DK2) with Razer Hydra motion controllers. The developers will also be providing the main talk at this event, looking at some of the challenges it faced in creating this experience.
Elsewhere, Retro Ronin will be at the event to showcase Voxelnauts, it’s VR MMO that’s currently running a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign.
“Most importantly, if you are working on VR WE WANT TO SEE YOUR WORK so bring it down to the event!” the organisers note on the Meetup page. “If you want feedback we will be glad to provide it. If you want to come and show off your VR demo or just talk with others about your VR Work please do. We are going to have a couple of hours of discussion and VR Demos at the beginning of the event. If you know someone who is working in VR let them know. Its a free event and you get pizza, snacks and VR!”
The Dallas VR Meetup will take place from 12:00 to 16:30 CT at UT Dallas Engineering and Computer Science Building, Room 2.306 on 800 W Campbell Rd, Richardson. VRFocus will continue to follow and all VR related events, reporting back with the latest updates on them.
