Earlier in the year UK-based indie developer Climax Studios released its very first virtual reality (VR) videogame in the form of the World War 2-themed Bandit Six for the Gear VR mobile head-mounted display (HMD). The turret-based title saw players taking to the skies and shooting down waves of enemies. Just a few months on from its release and Climax Studios is ready to reveal its sequel in Bandit Six: Salvo, again for Gear VR.
Bandit Six: Salvo expands on the original concept while introducing some new features. Instead of manning a turret on board a warplane players this time control several ground-based guns that they can position around a map at the start of the level. They are then able to switch between these weapons, each of which being different, using them to take down helicopters, battleships and more. The title boasts a cartoon-esque art style with players visiting a number of locations such as the beaches of Normandy, the ruins of Stalingrad and the Pacific.
It’s not year clear when Bandit Six: Salvo will launch on Gear VR. It will, however, be on show at Oculus VR’s own booth at E3 2015 in Los Angeles this week. The title is part of a Gear VR showcase that also includes a surprise announcement in a new VR version of Square Enix’s Hitman: GO.
VRFocus will continue to follow Climax Studios, reporting back with the latest updates on its progress.
