It wasn’t that long ago on VRFocus that we looked at The New Haven Mystery Mansion, and Oculus VR Share title that was based on the Stephen King penned mini-series Rose Red. Some commented at the time that they could see writer’s works provide much fruitful material for virtual reality (VR) adaption. Now in under a week we are back in King’s world by way of one of his most famous works: The Shining.
Visually based on the famous 1980’s Stanley Kubrick adaption, The Shining Experience demo, developed by piccastudio follows several of the events of The Shining as Jack Torrance slowly succumbs to cabin fever during a period as caretaker in the Colorado-based Overlook Hotel.
The demo includes the following:
– Maze Level
– Endless running mode
– Elevator blood scene
– Party scene
– Kitchen scene
– Jack Torrance chasing mode
The Oculus VR Share page does also intimate that through playing the demo multiple times ‘strange things will happen’ although no one has been able to identify what that may be at this time. If you’re a fan of the work of King and Kubrick and you have an Oculus Rift DK2 head-mounted display you can download the demo now from the Oculus VR Share website and find out for yourself. After all, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
Join VRFocus throughout the week as we bring spotlight an array of new videogames, apps, experiences and tech demos you can try out right now on either Oculus VR Share or the title can also be downloaded through WEARVR, you can find it here.
