Yesterday VRFocus reported on the launch of a demo for virtual reality (VR) title The Hum: Abductions, as well as the reveal of a portal for the alien abduction universe currenty being developed by Totwise Studios (formerly Thotwise Games). However, during the developer pitch session at SVVR Conference and Expo 2015 this week the team also revealed more information about which head-mounted display (HMD) platforms the studio is looking to support.
Alongside the existing compatibility for the Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus through Sony’s PlayStation 4, the title would also be coming to the Valve-backed HTC Vive and more intriguingly support the ‘Samsung Gear 2’, a name and logo we have not seen before.
This could possibly be the confirmed consumer Gear VR that is due later this year, although at this time no official name has been announced for the device. The HMD is expected to support Samsung’s yet-to-be-revealed enlarged smartphone, the Galaxy Note 5.
Whether this is our first glimpse of the next Gear VR’s name or a symbolic gesture by Totwise Studios towards future Gear VR support and development remains to be seen, although if official it may suggest we are close to a more official announcement by Samsung regarding the consumer version.
