If there’s one genre that is guaranteed to thrive on virtual reality (VR) it is the space-sim, from EVE: Valkyrie to Descent Underground and Sublevel Zero there are ever increasing opportunities for would be virtual space farers to strap on a VR head-mounted device (HMD) and take a sleek star fighter (or a reliable bucket of bolts).
One name that has not been mentioned to date is that of free-to-play Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) videogame Star Conflict. Made by Gaijin Entertainment, who also makes the ever popular War Thunder – itself VR supported. Star Conflict sees users try to eke out a living in a galaxy carved up by rogue states, dangerous mercenary groups and haunted by the spectre of interstellar war. Finding yourself in the middle of a rush for newly discovered remains of a lost civilization to survive or thrive is entirely up to you.
With the videogame now entering its second season a special demo has been added to Oculus VR Share to showcase the upper-level combat between the massive Dreadnought class ships as well as to show off the new support for both the DK1 and DK2 versions of the Oculus Rift. Comments so far have been very positive about the game and the use of the Oculus Rift, so should you wish to give the demo a try head on over to the Oculus VR Share page and give it a try.
Check back all this week as VRFocus will be spotlighting more VR titles for Oculus Rift and other platforms.
