Smash Hit Plunder, Pixel Ripped Devs Speaking at Develop Conference

The annual Developer Conference in Brighton, UK is becoming increasingly relevant for virtual reality (VR) developers. Last year saw Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) creator Oculus VR take home the award for Technical Innovation at the show’s awards ceremony, while the PlayStation 4’s Project Morpheus HMD was also put on display. That trend is set to continue this year, as two high profile VR-dedicated developers have signed up to host talks about working with the technology.

The first of these is Katie Goode of Triangular Pixels, who will be hosting a talk titled ‘Allow Them to Believe: Lessons in Creating Rich Dynamic VR Gameplay’. The session will look at developing for the Gear VR smartphone-based HMD as well as the challenges of creating for VR in general. It will also offer some tips and hints on playtesting VR experiences and much more. Triangular Pixels itself is currently working on Smash Hit Plunder for the Gear VR as well as its own entry into Oculus VR’s Mobile VR Jam.

Also speaking is Ana Ribeiro, the indie developer currently working on anticipated VR title Pixel Ripped for the Oculus Rift. Riberio’s talk is titled ‘An Indie Developers Journey from Origin to VR’. It will be a ‘lighthearted’ session in which the developer will talk about past experiences getting to grips with the technology and more. Pixel Ripped is a unique experience in which players visit different eras of videogame consoles.

The Develop Conference itself takes place from 14th – 16th July and is sure to be packed with a range of insights into VR technology. As with last year, an awards ceremony will also take place, with the likes of Oculus VR and VR compatible titles such as Elite: Dangerous up for prizes. VRFocus will continue to follow the event, reporting back with the latest updates on it.
