The atmospheric horror is having something of a quiet creative resurgence, certainly we have a growing number of tense virtual reality (VR) experience on all VR platforms. Today’s selection from the new releases on Oculus VR Share comes from House of Secrets, previously responsible for Lavaworld, Snowboarding, music video Surge and more that we have covered on VRFocus.
In their latest title Abandoned School, Rift users take a trip down the dark and deserted corridors of a school long ago forsaken by staff and pupils… and certainly by the living.
A relatively small but moody experience, the Unity-created level was a ‘in-house experimental project’, and was according to the developers created at the same time as Lavaworld and designed to focus on ‘atmosphere and immersion’. As such it may well be worth comparing the experience here with Lavaworld as well as Uncharted Territory – another project of that time.
Supporting both the DK 1 and DK2 versions of the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD), players can move about either by keyboard and mouse or by a gamepad. The developers recommend use of headphones for added immersion.
Come back to VRFocus tomorrow to see what other new additions have been listed on the Oculus VR Share platform.
