With the growing power and development of virtual reality (VR) content, especially shown on the likes of platforms such as Oculus’ VR Share platform there has been some concern, even in VRFocus’ own comment section about the opportunities available to publish content on Samsung’s Gear VR smartphone-based head-mounted display (HMD). However it seems Samsung are aware of their concerns and it was revealed yesterday the company are making a move to open up their Milk VR content platform more with a new channel dedicated to community content.
“We want to showcase high quality content from emerging filmmakers on a regular basis.” Samsung confirmed to us in a subsequent email.
Revealed on stage Monday by a Samsung spokesman as part of the discussions at the Silicon Valley Virtual Reality (SVVR) Conference and Expo 2015, there is at this time no timeline for the channel’s launch. However, Samsung have indicated that more information will be made available in the future.
Examples of community content shown onstage included:
- Beer with a Grizzly Bear from Dryft VR, a 360 degree video.
- Fractal Zoon, a fractal-based audio visual experience from Don Whitaker.
- And the 360 degree action horror 11:57 by Henrik + Sofia.
VRFocus will of course keep you up to date with all the developments with the Milk VR platform and its forthcoming community channel. Stay tuned for future updates on this and other Gear VR stories.
