UK-based virtual reality (VR) developer, nDreams, is one of the rare developers to have already released a premium VR videogame. Earlier in 2015 the studio launched its turret-based first-person shooter (FPS), Gunner, onto the Gear VR smartphone-based head-mounted display (HMD). This week now sees the team join an even more exclusive list, as it releases its second VR title onto Gear VR. That title is Perfect Beach, which can now be downloaded on both the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S6 versions of the HMD.
Perfect Beach is very different to Gunner. While both first-person experiences, the latter swaps the former’s lasers, space ships and planets for sand, gentle waves and sunlight. Players are tasked with simply relaxing as they sit on this beach, taking in the virtual view. Certain conditions, such as the time of day, can be changed by looking at and interacting with some of the items that are placed around the player’s feet. The title doesn’t require the use of a Bluetooth gamepad to be used, relying instead on Gear VR’s head-tracking and touchpad.
Gunner is available for $2.99 USD. Elsewhere, nDreams is already well into work on its third VR title, The Assembly. This first-person adventure experience isn’t for Gear VR but instead the Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus HMDs on PC and PlayStation 4 respectively. The title was first revealed at E3 2014 and, with luck, will be returning to this year’s show on 16th – 18th June. A possible version for Valve and HTC’s Vive HMD is yet to be confirmed.
VRFocus will continue to follow nDreams’ work in VR closely, reporting back with any further updates from the company.
