Omega Agent Launches in Full for Gear VR for S6

The reveal of Samsung’s Gear VR smartphone-based virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) back in 2014 was supported by a high-profile mobile videogame studio, Fireproof Games. The developer revealed that it was working on Omega Agent, a new first-person experience that allows players to pilot a jetpack in VR. This month sees Omega Agent finally launch in full for the newest iteration of Gear VR, which supports the Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphone and its curved spin-off, the Galaxy S6 edge.

Gear VR co-creator Oculus VR actually announced Omega Agent‘s launch last week, though failed to mention if it was the full game that was launching or a demo. Fireproof Games has since confirmed to VRFocus that this is indeed the full version of the title, which is available for $9.99 USD. Of course, the Gear VR for S6 is only just making itself available in the US, with Samsung and Best Buy planning to deliver the first online pre-orders on 8th May 2015 and the latter providing units at physical retail locations on 15th May. A version for the original Gear VR, which supports the Galaxy Note 4, is also in the works.

Omega Agent takes a spin on the Cold War era, set in an open world environment that’s used to train super spies. Players are handed a nuclear-powered jetpack and must explore this island, completing challenges and missions as they attempt to obtain the rank of Omega Agent. Fireproof Games promises to include a wide variety of challenges in the full game, ranging from races to action-focused segments. The title boasts a unique art style, showcasing a colourful, futuristic city that’s free to be explored.

VRFocus recent spoke to Fireproof Games’ Barry Meade about Omega Agent. He confirmed that the developer is hoping to bring the title to other HMDs such as Oculus Rift, Project Morpheus and HTC Vive. Following that, Fireproof Games hopes to keep working within VR. Check back later in the week for VRFocus‘ full interview with Meade.
