Gear VR for S6 Hits Europe with New Bundles and More

Earlier this morning VRFocus reported on the news that Samsung and Oculus VR’s Gear VR for S6, the latest edition of the smartphone-based virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD), had launched in the UK for £169 GBP. Of course, the UK is far from the only country that was waiting on the launch of the new device, which was previously only made available in the USA and Japan. It appears that said wait is brought to a close for a number of other countries in Europe today, which are now selling Gear VR for S6 at their respective Samsung online stories.

Much like the UK, both Germany and France are offering the barest package of the HMD itself for €199 EUR. Spain is also selling the kit for the same price, though intriguingly also lists a bundle with the Galaxy S6 smartphone itself. These offers don’t appear to be available just yet, though do offer a wide range of colours for the Galaxy S6. Both Belgium and Norway also have listings for the new device, although do not appear to actually be selling it at this point in time. Other territories such as Russia, Poland and the Netherlands are to post listings, as are countries outside of Europe such as Australia and New Zealand.

The Gear VR for S6 is the second iteration of Samsung’s device to release in these countries in 2015. The original version, which supported the Galaxy Note 4 enlarged smartphone, was rolled out in the early months following a full launch in the USA in December 2014. The Gear VR system has come a long way since that time, with Oculus VR recently introducing a commercialised store option that allows developers to actually charge for content. The kit has also benefited from a surge of content through an ongoing Mobile VR Jam.

A full consumer edition of Gear VR is expected to go on sale later in the year. It is thought that the device will support the currently unannounced Galaxy Note 5. VRFocus will continue to follow the Gear VR closely, reporting back with any further updates on it.
