Today’s the Oculus VR Share spotlight is shone on a new game experience developed and published by Swiss design company dreipol GmbH. In Shoggoth Rising you take on the role of a seaman who has been shipwrecked on a small rocky outcrop.
Taking shelter in the nearby lighthouse you quickly find that it is the only thing standing in the way of a seemingly never ending array of hideous sea monsters who seem determined to send you on an one-way trip to Davy Jones’ locker. In order to survive you must defend the lighthouse from the undersea horrors, will you live to see another dawn?
In essence a VR tower defence game, the experience is classified by the developers as an ‘interactive teaser/Oculus tech demo’, with the title available on iOS, Android, Windows Phone and also as an app for Windows 8. Oculus Rift users who would like to give it a try in virtual reality (VR), they will require a DK2 version of the head-mounted display (HMD). Whilst the experience can be controlled through mouse, keyboard or joypad inputs.
