Crytek have been particularly vocal of their interest in virtual reality (VR) over the past 10 months. Two early technical demonstrations and the promise of integrated support within CryENGINE 3 later and it appears the company is planning on upping its game yet further this summer, as VRFocus has learned that a brand new VR demo will be shown at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Los Angeles, this June.
Their debut showcase, an unnamed technical demonstration show behind closed doors at Gamescom, Cologne, last July, was an incredibly impressive presentation. The subsequent reveal of Back to Dinosaur Island at the Game Developers Conference (GDC), San Francisco, in March of this year heralded the potential for a full VR title developed internally by one of Crytek’s studios. The details of this latest piece have not yet been revealed, though the suspicion would be that this is the progression of that early outing.
Speaking to a Crytek spokesperson, the company confirmed to VRFocus that there would be a new demo to show. Crytek is currently booking appointments for a meeting room away from the show floor and so it’s not yet known whether the VR demo will play any part in their booth line-up. VRFocus will of course be in attendance at E3 and will keep you updated with all the latest from Crytek.
