A new title virtual reality (VR) videogame called Asteroids from developer Adrian Jamrozik has joined the ranks of Oculus VR Share but whilst the name may suggest a remake of the Atari classic it actually shares more in common with Missile Command.
This single-player space-based shooter has you using cannons to defend your moon base from damage from the incoming rocks; however there is also a strategic element too. The base must be expanded with buildings and upgrades in order to get to a point where a defensive shield can be deployed against the asteroids. Unfortunately for you, you must choose between which you want to upgrade – bases or laser – as you may only upgrade one at any one time. Not upgrading the laser will result in a more difficult job defending the base, whilst not upgrading buildings will prevent you from reaching your end goal. It is up to you to strike a balance between the two.
Supporting both the DK1 and DK2 versions of the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) and playable via keyboard or joypad, the full version of Asteroids is available now to download.
