Last week saw the reveal of Battle for Avengers Tower, a new virtual reality (VR) experience starring Marvel’s flagship superhero team for the Samsung Galaxy S6 version of the Gear VR smartphone-based head-mounted display (HMD). The title is set to be a launch experience for the new version of the HMD, which releases online in the USA today. But what about an edition for the original Gear VR, supporting the Galaxy Note 4? As it turns out, fans might not have to wait too much longer for the title to arrive.
Battle for Avengers Tower developer Framestore has confirmed to VRFocus that work on the Galaxy Note 4 edition of the experience is nearing completion, which should mean that it will arrive in the near future. Earlier this month Gear VR co-creator Oculus VR confirmed that some content will arrive on the Galaxy S6 edition of the device first due to ‘performance related reasons’. Another example of this is Omega Agent, the jet pack simulation experience from Fireproof Games that’s also available on Gear VR for S6 but yet to show up on the original kit.
Released in support of Marvel’s latest blockbuster, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Battle for Avengers Tower pits the titular team against the film’s antagonist, Ultron. Viewers are taken on a 360 degree tour of an action scene set within the fictional Avengers Tower in New York, in which Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and Captain America wage war with an army of robots. It is the latest in a long line of promotional VR experiences from Framestore, an effects studio that opened a dedicated VR division in 2014. It’s not clear if the experience might show up on other HMDs in the future.
VRFocus will continue to follow Battle for Avengers Tower, reporting back with any further updates on the title’s progress.
