Last week saw the announcement of what looks to be one of the first major attempts to bring the first-person shooter (FPS) genre to virtual reality. World of Diving developer Vertigo Games and Kick & Fennick creator Jaywalkers Interactive announced Arizona Sunshine, a zombie-based shooter for Valve and HTC’s Vive head-mounted display (HMD). The title’s announcement came with a teaser trailer and now the first screenshots of the PC videogame have arrived.
Below are six images of Arizona Sunshine, taken directly from gameplay. They showcase the title’s harsh environments, where players will have to battle the heat as well as the hordes of undead. The shots also give a detailed look at Arizona Sunshine‘s gruesome brand of zombies, and some of the weapons that players will use to taken them down.
Arizona Sunshine takes full advantage of the HTC Vive’s Room-Scale tracking, which is provided by Valve’s SteamVR system. The concept allows users to walk around within an area of up to 15-feet by 15-feet, with those movements tracked by a laser-based system known as Lighthouse and then replicated within an experience. A pair of motion-tracked controllers are also used which, in this case, allow for realistic weapon handling and inventory management.
Arizona Sunshine is hoping to release before the end of 2015, suggesting that it could possibly be a launch title for the holiday 2015 launch of the Vive itself. VRFocus will continue to follow the title closely, reporting back with any further updates on it.
