The most exciting aspect of Oculus VR’s ongoing Mobile Jam for its smartphone-based virtual reality (VR), head-mounted display (HMD), Gear VR, is the surge of content that it’s bringing to the platform. A total of 407 successful entrants are all hoping to secure some of the total $1,000,000 USD prize money with various new videogames, apps and experiences. One new entry into the videogame category is A.L.I.C.E., a first-person adventure experience that will take player to an alien planet.
Created by, B?a?ej Szaflik, Aleksander Caban and Karolina Koszuta, A.L.I.C.E. sets players on a research mission to investigate an alien planet that is soon to be destroyed in a natural disaster. The plot itself is loosely based around the Lewis Carroll classic, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, with the title itself referring to an exo-armour that players will use to navigate the environment. The plot itself can be changed, resulting in a number of different endings.
Intriguingly, A.L.I.C.E. appears to have an online component of sorts in which one player’s choices will affect the world for other players. It’s not clear exactly how this system will be implemented although the developer does suggest that players will either be able to help or hinder players that follow behind them in the story. The title is being developed using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4, which will be used to render the alien planet that the developer describes as sandy.
The videogame category of the Mobile VR Jam is offering a grand prize of $200,000 USD with runner up offerings of $100,000, $50,000 and $10,000. VRFocus will continue to follow each and every entry into the Jam, reporting back with the latest updates on them.
