Over the course of the past few years UK-based indie developer Just Add Water has become synonymous with the popular Oddworld franchise, revisiting past entries in the surreal series and updating them for new consoles and platforms. The company’s most recent effort, Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty! was a full blown remake of the title that started it all, Oddworld: Abe’s Odyssey. A remake of its sequel, Oddworld: Abe’s Exodus, looks likely, although the developer has also teased that it is working on something for the Project Morpheus PlayStation 4 virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD).
Studio CEO Stewart Gilray teased as much recently via his Twitter account. Gilray first posted a blank image along with the message “#screenshotsaturday I’d love to show you, but we’ve not announced this one yet.” The statement was followed by another with the same image, this time reading: “Then there’s the other project #screenshotsaturday again can’t show you.”
But it was Gilray’s final message that proved the most enticing, this time including a picture of Project Morpheus itself along with the writing: “But then again project one … #ScreenshotSaturday.” No other teases have been given at this time.
What could Just Add Water be working on with Project Morpheus? Is the team brining the Oddworld universe to the technology? VR fans will have to wait to find out, although hopefully the answers will arrive at future events such as E3 in June, where Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) has promised to reveal more on Project Morpheus and compatible videogames. The device itself is currently gearing up for a full consumer launch in the first half of 2016 and recently revealed a new version, sporting a 1080p OLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate.
VRFocus will continue to follow Just Add Water’s work in VR and any other Project Morpheus titles, reporting back with the latest on them.
