A new video from the VR-Nerds collective, the German team behind virtual reality (VR) geo-caching and ‘dream planet’ exploration experience ‘Lucid Trips’ has been released as they prepare a new installation for the immersive project.
To support the design of the bodiless avatar system used within the title, the video partially shows the partial construction and proposed final design of a new harness assembly for users. Previous videos have shown the developers suspended in mid-air in a crawling, swimming or flying position. This is to enhance the feeling of movement as users use their arms to power them along through the virtual world and control the development of the world as you see fit – as you would in a lucid dream.
Containing both adventure and puzzle elements there is no such thing as ‘death’ in the title per se, but the developers have instead implemented a system where you effectively wake up and must remove the Oculus Rift headset for a period of time before re-entering the dream state. Of cousrse doing so will reset your progress to another dream world.[vimeo]https://vimeo.com/124404401[/vimeo]
VRFocus will continue to follow the development of Lucid Trips and other virtual reality projects.
