Many will know indie developer Fireproof Games for its popular mobile puzzle-based series, The Room. Virtual reality (VR) fans, however, will know that the UK-based studio is currently working on its very own title for the Gear VR smartphone-based head-mounted display (HMD) in Omega Agent. It’s hoped that this promising title will be launching in the near future now that the platform has a commercial store option, at least in the US. Following its initial launch, Fireproof Games fully intends to bring Omega Agent to ‘all the major VR platforms’.
Studio co-founder and Director Barry Meade confirmed as much to VRFocus in an interview that will be published in full in the near future. When asked if the developer was interested in bringing Omega Agent to other platforms Meade replied: “Absolutely. We’ll bring it to any VR platform that it will make sense on, yeah. So we want to do it on all the major VR platforms.” Just to be clear, VRFocus asked Meade about specific platforms to which he replied: “Morpheus, Oculus and Vive.”
Fireproof Games is in fact already working with latter HMD; the developer appeared as one of a handful of studios to have been working on Valve and HTC’s Vive when it was announced last month. The studio had created a demo that was inspired by The Room to showcase with the device at the 2015 Game Developers Conference (GDC). It’s not clear if this project could turn into a full VR videogame for the Vive, which is planning to launch for holiday 2015.
Set on a remote island training facility for cold-war spies, Omega Agent allows players to mount a nuclear-powered jetpack and fly around a city filled with missions, taking on opponent agents and collecting power-ups as they attempt to bring down enemies.
VRFocus will continue to follow Omega Agent closely, reporting back with any further updates on its progress.
