StellarVR’s Eridanus Wars has successfully established a keen audience since its first reveal in January of this year. A concept demo paved the way for a launch on Steam Greenlight which has now resulted in approval for publication, with StellarVR expecting to launch the final product via Valve’s digital distribution channel later this year.
Eridanus Wars is an online virtual reality (VR) title which promises to deliver co-operative gameplay in which players attack space stations, battleships and dogfight in deep space. Played from a cockpit perspective, players will sit side-by-side as they pilot and control the main ships weapons or take the co-pilot seat and man the turret. Built from the ground-up to be compatible with the Oculus Rift, Eridanus Wars may also see a wider distribution on other head-mounted displays (HMDs) according to an update from StellarVR:
“We have already started looking at widening compatibility and we hope to build-in support for the newly announced Steam VR headset as well as other PC headsets. We will post more information once we get our hands on the new Developer kits,” stated the developer in an update on the official Eridanus Wars Steam Greenlight page.
Talking about the success of the Steam Greenlight campaign, StellarVR also offered an update to thank their audience: “Firstly we want to thank you all for the amazing support and for helping us get to this stage. Needless to say, we are now focusing hard on completing the game and hope to have it complete and available on Steam near the end of the year.”
Though Eridanus Wars is certainly on the right track, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing. The Kickstarter campaign for the title did not perform as well as expected and was eventually cancelled by the developer. The original concept demo is still available to download and VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details on Eridanus Wars.
