Austin, Texas-based developer Ghost Machine has plenty going on in the world of virtual reality (VR). The developer recently saw success on the Steam Greenlight system with Final Strike, its flight combat title for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD), as well as launching another such campaign for a tower defence title known as Orc Assault. Now the studio has passed another Greenlight campaign, this time for its upcoming zombie shooter, Endless Dead. The success means that the title will launch on Steam come full release.
Endless Dead is a 3D isometric rougelike shooter that the developer describes as ‘half RPG, half Gauntlet clone’. Players find themselves in a small town that becomes overrun with zombies from a nearby research base. Choosing from either single-player or online co-op and survival options, players will travel through the town, eliminating enemies, gathering loot and facing off with bosses. The title features a permadeath system, meaning players will start over from scratch each time that they die.
A total of ten weapons types feature in Endless Dead, while players can also upgrade their character’s skills and gear with the money earned from battles.
Ghost Machine’s videogame features full support for the Oculus Rift and also plans to integrate Valve and HTC’s own HMD, the HTC Vive. The studio is currently aiming to release the title in the fourth quarter of 2015. Possible ports to the Gear VR and Project Morpheus HMDs are yet to be mentioned. VRFocus will continue to follow Endless Dead closely, reporting back with any further updates on its progress.
