It’s been a long road to get there, but next week finally marks the launch of an Early Access version of anticipated virtual reality (VR) supported dungeon crawler, Crystal Rift. The title from UK-based indie developer Psytec Games will launch on PC on 20th April with full support for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD). To celebrate, the studio will be hosting a launch event in London, UK on the same day, with all fans invited.
The Crystal Rift launch event will be taking place at The Loading Bar, London from 19:00 GMT. The videogame’s developers will be on hand to meet fans and have a drink.
Crystal Rift itself is a first-person experience in which players move one step at a time on a square-based grid. Players will explore environments, making sure to avoid traps and enemies as they solve a range of platform-based challenges and other puzzles. As they delve further into the title’s dungeons they will discover crystals that can be used either as power-ups or to unlock doors necessary to progress. The title will also include a full level editor which will allow players to create their own environments and, in the full version, share them with others.
Today marks the last day of discounted pre-orders for Crystal Rift. Fans can head to the Humble Bundle Store and lay down an early order for £14.99 GBP as opposed to the usual price of £16.99. It’s not yet clear just how long the developer plans to keep the title in Early Access before moving to the full version. Psytec Games has confirmed to VRFocus that it would also like to bring the title of HTC and Valve’s Vive HMD. A version for the Gear VR smartphone-based HMD is also in the works, which VRFocus recently went hands-on with.
VRFocus will continue to follow Crystal Rift closely, reporting back with the latest updates on it.
