FLARB have today announced that their forthcoming virtual reality (VR) tower defence title, Caldera Defense, will soon be launching on Gear VR. Ahead of the release will comes a free trial version, available to download from today.
Caldera Defense is promoted as an ‘action strategy hybrid’, in which the player acts as the tower within a tower defence scenario. The player must defend a rig harvesting alien energy against waves of both ground and air troops. Played from a first-person perspective, Caldera Defense appears to be similar to nDreams’ recently released Gunner, but whether that comparison holds true will be revealed with the official launch of the demo version of the videogame.
FLARB are a Los Angeles, California, based studio that have worked on previous titles such as Brave Balls!, a real-time massively multiplayer online (MMO) title for Facebook, and Camera Birds, an augmented reality (AR) bird watching videogame that uses Qualcomm Vuforia technology to display virtual birds in the real world. Caldera Defense will act as FLARB’s first foray into the world of VR.
No official release date for the full version of Caldera Defense has yet been announced, nor it’s intended price point. VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details on Caldera Defense and other forthcoming VR titles from FLARB.
