Sports videogames could see a fundamental change when virtual reality (VR) tech goes mainstream, providing new levels of immersion for people’s favourite games. Indie developer +++Productions is one of the first to try and capitalise on that potential with its new experience, 1 of 11 Football. The title has this week launched both Kickstarter and Steam Greenlight campaigns, with the former hoping to raise $25,000 USD towards development and the latter trying to secure enough positive votes to be sold on Steam come full launch.
1 of 11 Football is a multiplayer-focused take on American Football that features full support for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) on PC, Mac and Linux. As the title suggests, players take on the role of one of 11 members that form a traditional football team. Teams must work together to overcome the opposition using with a first or third-person perspective. A single-player mode will also feature for those that prefer to play alone. Mini-games will also feature as a means of practicing some of the titles physics-driven mechanics.
+++Productions also notes that 1 of 11 Football will be coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One should it raise Kickstarter funding. It’s not clear if the former version will feature support for the Project Morpheus HMD. An Early Access edition of the title is also planned for summer 2015, with the developers continuing to work on it leading up to a full release later on. Those interested can pledge $25 on Kickstarter to gain access to the pre-release edition of the title.
VRFocus will continue to follow 1 of 11 Football, reporting back with any further updates on the title.
