Following the official reveal of the collaboration between Valve and HTC earlier today, the first official image of the Vive head-mounted display (HMD) has been revealed. The device itself has been confirmed to be available as a ‘developer edition’ this spring, followed by a consumer release later this year.
HTC’s Vive is one of many smartphone based HMDs coming to market, but the collaboration with leading videogame developer and Steam platform holder is most definitely a significant coup. HTC has already announced a number of additional partners, including Lionsgate, Fireproof Games, Bossa Studios, Vertigo Games and HBO, however at this point no software titles have been confirmed for the device.
Featured below is the first officially revealed image of the Vive HMD, with more information expected to follow at this week’s Game Developers Conference (GDC), San Francisco. VRFocus will be attending GDC and will keep you updated with all the latest details on the Vive and other HMDs at the event.
