Orc Assault Confirmed for Valve and HTC’s Vive
Texas-based indie developer Ghost Machine currently has a number for virtual reality (VR) compatible projects going through Steam Greenlight campaigns. The most recent of these is Orc Assault, a tower-defence experience for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD). However, that’s not the only HMD that this new title will be coming to; Ghost Machine has confirmed that it has been working with Valve and HTC on the newly-announced Vive to bring Orc Assault to the device in time for launch.
“We wanted to chime in with the latest news about Valves / HTC Vive virtual reality headset,” Ghost Machine wrote in a recent update on Orc Assault‘s Steam Greenlight page. “We have been working for several months with Valve and Steam VR and have already begun preparations to integrate Valves new hardware. We already have 2 VR enabled titles on Steam VR and will continue to utilize Steam VR for all of our future games.” It wasn’t revealed which other the developer’s other titles will be coming to the device but it did confirm that that Orc Assault will launch with support for the ‘Steam VR platform’.
Ghost Machine’s other titles include the already-released MotorSport Revolution and Final Strike as well as Endless Dead, which is also running a Steam Greenlight campaign. It’s difficult to tell which of these titles might be coming to Vive. The HMD itself consists of a display panel for each eye as well as two controllers that players will use for interact with virtual environments. Crucially, the kit also communicates with a pair of Steam VR ‘base stations’ that allows users to walk around an area of up to 15 feet by 15 feet and have those movements replicated in-game.
VRFocus will continue to follow Ghost Machine’s progress with all of its projects, reporting back with any further updates.
