Cinematic virtual reality (VR) company Jaunt is already no stranger to combining music with VR. Last year saw the company launch two experiences for head-mounted displays (HMD) that placed viewers on stage with Sir Paul McCartney and Jack White respectively. These titles provide audiences with a unique perspective on concerts. Today sees the company announce a new partnership that will help expand Jaunt’s work in 360 degree concerts, as it partners with music network REVOLT VR.
The partnership was announced at this week’s South By Southwest (SXSW) Music Festival. Jaunt has filmed 360 degree videos at REVOLT Studios in Hollywood as well as various REVOLT events from across the US. Attendees of SXSW Music can get a look at the pair’s work in the form of an exclusive performance from Big Sean at REVOLT House on Rainey Street. A number of artists will be performing at the house throughout the festival including Alex Winston, Chris Webby ft. Bobby Grant, Hiatus Kaiyote, James Davis, Joey Badass, Joywave, Mini Mansions, Priory, Public Service Broadcasting, Revel In Dimes, Towkio, Two-9 and YNGCULT with more names to be announced.
“REVOLT works with the most innovative names in popular music. We’re excited to team up with such a forward-thinking media network to deliver cutting edge immersive experiences to audiences like never before,” Jaunt CEO Jens Christensen said of the news. “Concert and festival environments are perfectly suited for virtual reality and our content provides fans with a truly unique opportunity to feel like they’re up close and personal with their favorite artist.”
The Big Sean performance will soon be made available through Jaunt’s official website. Expect it to arrive on both the Oculus Rift HMD and Google Cardboard. VRFocus will continue to follow Jaunt’s work closely, reporting back with and further updates.
