Previously VRFocus reported on Insurgent: Shatter Reality being released for Samsung’s Gear VR head-mounted display (HMD). It has released via the company’s 360 degree video platform Milk VR. The title is based on the Divergent film series and features some of the same actors from them. It was created by virtual reality (VR) pioneers Kite & Lightning who also created Senza Peso ad VR opera. Now a standard version has been released on Youtube to promote the upcoming film.
The experience places the audience in the role of one of the ‘divergent’ members of society who do not fit in any other faction due to their inability to conform to human norms. The user is captured by Kate Winslet’s character Jeanine Matthews and her Erudite faction. She puts ‘divergent’ members of society through mental tests to determine how divergent they are.
The title starts in a testing room with the antagonist Matthews as they set up the tests. Then the user is transported to the top of a building with birds flying through the sky. As they do, they come together and turn to fly directly at the character.
Then the user is on a broken railroad which repairs itself. A train is seen approaching with a hole appearing in the railway track. The train proceeds to head towards the screen. As it collides, the audience is taken out of the simulation and back to the room with Matthews as she states that she means to run further tests on the player.
VRFocus will keep you updated on the latest from Kite & Lightning.
