Taiwanese smartphone company HTC surprised the virtual reality (VR) industry today by announcing a new head-mounted display (HMD) in partnership with Steam platform owner Valve. The pair are working on HTC Vive, an intriguing new kit. However hardware wasn’t all HTC had to show at its Mobile World Congress (MWC) press conference; the company also confirmed a long list of partners with will work with it on the kit.
An image released by HTC, seen below, shows a long list of partners that are working on HTC Vive. They include HBO, Lionsgate, Fireproof Games, Bossa Studios, Cloudhead Games, Owlchemy Labs, Vertigo Games, Google, Skillman & Hackett, Dovetail Games, WemoLads and Steel Wool Games.
While it’s not surprising to see film studios such as Lionsgate partnering with the company, the likes of Cloudhead Games and other developers certainly is. That developer is currently working on The Gallery: Six Elements for the Oculus Rift while Fireproof Games is developing Omega Agent for Gear VR. Could these developers be planning to port their titles over to HTC Vive or will new titles be coming from them?
VRFocus will have plenty more on HTC Vive as it happens.
