It’s been a busy time for Psytech Games, the UK-based developer behind upcoming virtual reality (VR) compatible dungeon crawler, Crystal Rift. The team recently confirmed that, along with the announced PC version of the title with Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) support, Crystal Rift will also be coming to Samsung’s Gear VR smartphone-based HMD. So far the developer has refrained from announcing a full release date for the project, but has recently confirmed plans for an Early Access release to VRFocus.
Psytech Games has informed VRFocus that it is aiming to launch an Early Access edition of Crystal Rift, presumably through Steam’s pre-release system, in April 2015. It’s not yet clear which features from the first-person experience will be present in this version, nor how much longer the full release will take following this initial launch. Obviously, this news concerns the PC release of the title, with details about the Gear VR version, which will run on Samsung’s latest devices, still to be revealed.
Crystal Rift is inspired by the likes of Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder, allowing players to explore dangerous environments one step at a time on a square-based grid. The full videogame will offer over 20 levels filled with traps, puzzles and other challenges as well as an in-depth level editor that will allow users to create their own stages to share online. The videogame can currently be pre-ordered over on the Humble Store for a discounted price of £14.99 GBP. When launched, the full title will be priced at £16.99.
VRFocus will continue to follow the latest updates on Crystal Rift, reporting back on any further progress.
