Previously VRFocus reported on the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) compatible title Cosmonaut launching its Steam Greenlight campaign. The aim was to secure enough votes for the virtual reality (VR) videogame to release on Valve’s digital sharing platform. Now the title has passed the campaign and is due for release on Steam.
Cosmonaut puts players in the role of an astronaut in which after some accidents has to make its way through the space station while trying to survive. Players will have to manage their oxygen levels as well as looking out for debris which could break they characters visor.
Users must also use tools in order to interact with the environment, like hammers to break objects and laser cutters to cut through walls. The inventory must be replenished using O2 canisters, fuel tanks as well as batteries. There is no linear story featured in the title, but there are 15 acts which are all interconnected. Also the developers at GroundControlGames have expressed its interest on releasing a Steam Early Access version for users to try and give ideas for features and plot details.
Currently the Ground Control Games have been experimenting with the Oculus Rift first and second development kit (DK1, DK2) however are also using Xbox’s Kinect 1 and 2.
VRFocus will keep you updated on the progress of Cosmonauts.
