Last week saw social virtual reality (VR) platform Convrge open its new theatre area, allowing those that use the software to meetup online and watch videos together using the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD). A week on and the platform will now be used to honour actor Leonard Nimoy, who sadly passed away earlier this week at age 83.
“Shawn and I are huge fans of Star Trek and were greatly saddened by the loss of Leonard ‘Spock’ Nimoy on Friday,” Convrge‘s Hayden noted in an update from the platform. “As a remembrance we’ll be watching highlight clips in Convrge Sunday 3pm EST.”
“We’ve also invited a friend who was lucky enough to meet Mr. Nimoy in person and we’re crossing our fingers they can make it.”
Available to download from an official website, Covrge allows players to meet up online with avatars that resemble characters from popular culture. Along with watching videos, players can see around a campfire to chat and head to a dance floor to listen to music. VRFocus will continue to follow Convrge‘s progress, reporting back with any further updates from the platform.
