It’s no secret that virtual reality (VR) has proved popular with indie developers. The $350 USD price point for a development kit for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) and low-cost smartphone-based HMDs makes the technology accessible to a large amount of creators. Proof of VR’s current popularity can be seen at next month’s A MAZE. indie festival in Berlin, Germany, where a total of 16 VR videogames are currently set to be on display, with the chance of more being announced in the future.
A MAZE. takes place on 22nd – 25th April 2015 and celebrates all things indie. The festival will include a wide range of videogames, talks, workshops and more. In terms of VR videogames, everything from proven titles such as Among the Sleep and Glitchspace to experimental projects like Story Generating Apparatus and Awkward Ellie will feature. While the majority of these titles utilise the Oculus Rift, a handful will also be shown on smartphone-based devices such as Google Cardboard and Oculus VR and Samsung’s Gear VR.
The full list of titles includes ManoeuVR, Cyborg Dating, Glitchspace, Swing, House of Terror VR, Among the Sleep, Aboard the Looking Glass, Kesselberg Legendary Racing, Playhead, Pixel Rift, Trip The Light Fantastic, Otherworld, Story Generating Apparatus, Deep, Baking with Friends and Awkward Ellie.
Tickets for A MAZE. can be purchased via an EventBrite page. The event takes place at Urban Spree, 99 Revaler Straße, 10245, Berlin. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all VR-related events, reporting back with the latest updates on them.
UPDATE: A MAZE. has been in touch with VRFocus to clarify that the titles listed were simply submissions, meaning that they won’t all be on display. Successful nominees include Among The Sleep, Cyborg Dating, Deep, Pixel Rift and Trip The Light Fantastic. VRFocus apologies for any confusion.
