Indie developer Proton Studios was one of the few developers that released a full virtual reality (VR) compatible videogame in 2014. The studio launched the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) supported Time Rifters onto PC last October. The title even went on to win ‘Best Game‘ at the inaugural Virtual Reality Awards a few months later. For those that still haven’t decided on if they should pick the title up Proton Studios has this week launched a brand new demo for Time Rifters along with a temporary sale.
The new demo for this unique first-person shooter (FPS) tasks players with killing as many enemies as possible within four lives. As fans of the title will know, Time Rifters records the players’ actions each life and then plays them out on top of their current life, allowing for a sort of single-player co-op. The sample also offers one of the arenas featured in the full title and allows players to collect gold and upgrade their weapons. As for the sale, Time Rifters is priced at £3.49 GBP until 16th February 2015.
The demo is currently available from Time Rifters’ Steam page. As for the full title, Proton Studios has adjusted the Scatter Pistol in order to balance it out with other weapons in the title. Time Rifters features full support for the Oculus Rift’s second development kit (DK2) and will hopefully integrate future iterations of the device as they become available. VRFocus will continue to follow Time Rifters going forward, reporting back with any further updates on the title.
