Highly anticipated virtual reality (VR) title Pixel Rift has recently been Greenlit on Steam, as it has secured the necessary up-votes to be available on Valves sharing platform. The title developed by Ana Ribeiro, has shown to be one of the most interesting and promising titles. Pixel Rift is set to be compatible with the second Oculus Rift development kit (DK2) head-mounted display (HMD).
Players are cast in the role of Nicola, a young girl obsessed with videogames. Her particular affections are directed towards fictional title Pixel Rift. In the videogame users will travel to different periods in the characters life in which Nicola will play different iterations of the videogame franchise. The franchise will not only be played in different times, but also on other platforms in different environments.
The main premise for Pixel Rift is that it is a videogame inside of a videogame. It attempts to re capture every child videogamers obsession with hand-held consoles like the ‘Game Girl’, a device depicted in the title. Using a 8-bit, 2D graphics style, the developer creates a colourful and surreal style surrounded by real world situations like classrooms and living rooms.
