Oculus Rift Heading to AnimeJapan 2015 With Gargantia Experience

The Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) has previously been used to bring certain anime shows to life. Last year saw an Attack on Titan VR experience debut in Japan, for example, while indie developer Nick Pittom has developed two VR titles that let players explore iconic Studio Ghibli creations. Another such experience has been announced this week, this time featuring popular sci-fi anime show, Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet.

The experience will make its debut at the 2015 AnimeJapan event on 21st – 22nd March 2015 in Tokyo, Japan. According to Crunchy Roll the software will be on display at the ‘Wonderful Hobby Life For You’ booth, allowing players to get a cockpit view of the space fleets that feature in the series. The series itself is set in the distance future in which mankind fights a war with horrific aliens known as the Hideauze.

It appears as if the experience will run with the second development kit (DK2) for the Oculus Rift. The piece has been created to promote the upcoming two-part sequel to the series, an original video animation (OVA) heading straight to homes instead of cinemas. That’s set to debut later in the year.

VRFocus will continue to follow any and all applications of the Oculus Rift, reporting back with any further updates.
