Kôna Delayed

It’s been a short while since indie developer Parabole provided an update on its anticipated virtual reality (VR) compatible adventure title, Kôna. Towards the end of 2014 the company announced that it secured $115,000 CAD in additional funding for the title. Despite this good news, the team recently took to Kickstarter, where Kôna was successful funded back in 2014, to reveal that the title has suffered a delay, with release now moving from in a few months’ time to towards the end of the year.

Having initially been listed for an April or May 2015 launch, Kôna is now expected to release the first of its four episodes in either October or November. The team revealed that is was due to an ongoing delay in actually accessing the funds it was granted by the Canadian Media Funds. “There are forms to fill and some structures to put in place before receiving a payment,” the team revealed in the recent update. “If all goes well, we should have 45% of the CMF money in a month. This is after PAX.

“That being said, we want to be honest with you guys, the game won’t see the light of day in April or May. Our revised production plan points to October or November. This give us time to hire new resources and spend more time increasing the quality of the game,” the developer concluded.

Kôna casts players as Caul Fauert, a private detective hired by an industrialist to investigate damage to his summer home in northern Quebec. Upon arriving at the scene, Faubert discovers that both his employer and the local community are missing. Players will explore the area in an attempt to uncover just what has transpired. The experience is intended to avoid helping players, forcing them to work out its mysteries for themselves.

While Kôna is coming to PC with Oculus Rift support, Parabole has also said that there is a ‘good chance‘ the title will arrive on PlayStation 4 with support for the Project Morpheus head-mounted display (HMD). VRFocus will continue to follow Kôna, reporting back with any further updates on the title.
