New to Steam Greenlight is the short narrative driven virtual reality (VR) experience Home is Where One Starts. The title follows the story of a young girl trying to find her definition of ‘home’. It is set to be compatible with the second iteration of Oculus Rift (DK2) head-mounted display (HMD).
The title is narrated by the character’s future self reflecting on such an important moment in her life. After the little girl misses a bus to school, she is left contemplating what home was, and where she belongs. Players are asked to explore the countryside and recover clues as well as vignettes which give an impression of who the character is. It is up to the player to answer the question “Where is home? And how do you get there?”
Players can get different secret endings depending on what they choose to explore. The Home is Where One Starts website sets up the inner monologue of the girl’s thoughts at the time: “I remember just waiting at the end of my driveway… waiting for the school bus I had already missed. I guess I just didn’t want to go back inside that trailer. At that age I didn’t know what home was, but it didn’t matter… it found me that morning.”
The title will be available for $1.99 USD in the early summer time though it is assumed that this is subject to change. VRFocus will keep you updated on the latest Steam Greenlight content.
