Virtual reality (VR) technology is set to impact all types of media in the future and art is no exception. In fact, some artists are already working with the likes of the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) to create pieces unlike anything seen before, be it through movies or interactive experiences. UK-based creative developer Riccardo Stecca is one such artist. Recently the Stecca teased his latest project which is said to be very much influenced by thatgamecompany’s celebrated PlayStation 3 classic, Journey.
Stecca recently posted an image of the upcoming project onto his Twitter account, confirming that it is in development for the Oculus Rift and labelling it as ‘digital art’. The image, seen below, depicts a desert-like environment with a surreal art style. A strange structure can also be seen in the background. When another Twitter user noted that it reminded them of Journey, Stecca replied: “Thank you! One of the scenes definitely remembers it. @thatgamecompany influenced me and I proudly say that loud.”
There weren’t any other details on just what this piece might feature, nor when it might be released. Journey itself was an exploration-based title that touched upon a wide range of themes, gaining the attention of both critics and fans with its distinctive visuals and unique approach to multiplayer. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all applications of VR, reporting back with any further updates.
