Virtual reality (VR) fans may have seen the name Convrge pop up a number of times over the past few weeks. This unique social experience, which is compatible with the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD), has hosted a handful of VR ‘dance parties’ as it continues to grow into a full product. Another piece of the platform is set to be added tomorrow at Convrge hosts the grand opening for its theatre, bringing some crucial new features to the experience that will help to flesh it out even more.
The theatre’s grand opening will take place on 24th February at 21:00 EST. Some screenshots of the new feature can be seen below. As one image shows, users will be able to share video content on a virtual screen that exists within the same outside environment that previous Convrge parties have been held in. Convrge allows players to meet up in this environment and head to a dance floor, sit around a campfire and more. Player’s avatars are represented as floating heads of characters from pop culture such as Batman and Pikachu.
The opening event will see everything from Youtube videos to Twitch livestreams pulled up on the virtual screen, with video requests being issued by attendees. Those interested in attending can download Convrge from its official website. The developer also hopes to start looking for players that might be interested in hosting their own events in Convrge in the near future. Anyone interested in doing so can contact Shawn Whiting at firstname.lastname@example.org. VRFocus will continue to follow Convrge, reporting back with any more updates from the service.
