In the past VRFocus has reported on an intriguing new start-up company named Virtual View Productions. The company is working on 360 degree content to be viewed using virtual reality (VR) head-mounted displays (HMD) such as the Oculus Rift. In the past it has announced American actor Lance Reddick is coming on board as both a seed investor and producer. Now it has been announced that Troy Baker, the voice actor known for a great number of roles including Joel in The Last of Us, will also be working with the company on its upcoming content.
Baker will be working with the company on its two current projects: Spirit City and The Last Train to Salvation. Both are sci-fi titles, although specific details on what either will involve are yet to be revealed. It’s not specifically stated just how Baker is involved; it could be that the actor plays a role in either series or something entirely different.
“Every medium, with the exception of games and other interactive experiences, as engaging as they are, are purely observational,” the actor said of his involvement in the projects. “The tangibility, the full immersion these kinds of experience offer, are unparalleled. There is no doubt in my mind that VR is the next evolution in storytelling and that’s something I want to be a part of.
“Being a creative partner is something that has always been of paramount interest to me. I really enjoy being in the trenches, rolling up my sleeves and getting dirty. I’ve had the opportunity to work with the best in the business. Working with Stuart, Lance and the team at Virtual View Productions is the next step for me and one that I’m honoured and excited to make.”
Last year Virtual View Productions also announced that it would be partnering with VR videogame developer nDreams to explore new possibilities with VR movies and titles.
