Oculus Talks Gear VR’s Past, Present and Future

Many had hoped 2014 would end with Oculus VR releasing a consumer virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD). In a roundabout way those people got their wish. While the company continues to work on the eagerly anticipated Oculus Rift, it did launch the smartphone-based Gear VR in partnership with Samsung, at least in the US. Although still very much a developer kit, the device has reportedly gone to sell better than Samsung itself expected. VRFocus recently spoke to Oculus VR Head of Mobile Max Cohen about the kit.

In the interview below, conducted at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this month, Cohen talks about Gear VR’s journey so far, where it stands today, and what the future might hold for the device. There’s mention of Oculus VR’s’ first internally-developed title, HeroBound: First Steps, as well as talk of Gear VR vs Oculus Rift.

VRFocus will have plenty more to come from its time at CES 2015 so make sure to stay tuned.
