Having spent the past few year bringing other developer’s videogames to different consoles and working on other company’s IP, UK-based Climax Studios has an exciting proposition in Bandit Six. This virtual reality (VR) title is set to appear on the Gear VR smartphone-based head-mounted display (HMD) from Samsung and will be one of the developer’s first original projects since 2012’s SmartAs. In fact, the studio is hoping to make a name for itself with the title, allowing it go on and create even more VR content.
That is according to associate producer Maria Novisova, who said as much in a recent interview with Pocket Gamer. “We have a bunch of interesting ideas that are being discussed at the moment and a new game in development,” Novisova revealed. “Let’s just say that we are fully equipped to use all the know-how we got on Bandit Six and take VR gaming to the next level.” No announcements have been made on just what this new VR title is. It’s also not clear if it will also be appearing on Gear VR or perhaps coming to other HMDs such as Oculus Rift.
Bandit Six is a turret-based first-person shooter (FPS) that allows players to control the rear gun of a Lancaster Bomber, protecting the vehicle from incoming enemy craft. A release date for the experience is yet to be revealed, although the Oculus VR Store that hosts Gear VR compatible content currently only offers free experiences. It could be that Bandit Six doesn’t debut until the developer is given the option to charge for content. The same article suggests that the title could potentially come to other HMDs in the future.
VRFocus will continue to follow Bandit Six closely, reporting back with any further updates on the title.
