The virtual reality (VR) calendar for 2015 is already filling up with plenty of events for enthusiasts to get excited about. Most of these will again be taking place over in the USA, although VR fans in the UK will have their own events to attend. One such event is the first ever SouthWest VR Conference (SWVRC), an expansion of the SWVR Meetups that began earlier in 2014, headed up by indie developer Opposable Games the studio behind upcoming VR compatible tactical action title Salvaged.
SWVRC will be taking place on 24th February 2015 at the At-Bristol Science Centre. The conference will play host to guests and speakers such as Callum Underwood of Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) creator Oculus VR, Atlantic Production’s Alchemy VR Creative Director Phil Harper and Gunner, Perfect Beach and The Assembly developer nDreams CEO Patrick O’Luanaigh. The event will be themed around narrative and storytelling, with speakers looking at the challenges of telling VR stories across videogames as well as 360 degree TV and film.
Of course, there will be a number of VR videogames and experiences to sample at the conference too across both the Oculus Rift and Gear VR smartphone-based HMD. The list includes Salvaged, Tammeka Games’ Radial G, nDreams’ Gunner and Perfect Beach, Ana Riberio’s Pixel Rift and an experience named Moved by Conflict. Opposable Games have also teased that several ‘high-profile’ experiences will also be announced in the run up to the event. Sponsorship comes from DCRC, Webstart Bristol and Bristol + Bath Invest, with additional support provided by Bristol Media.
Tickets for SWVRC are available now, with Early Bird pricing starting at £80 GBP. More information on the event is available at its official website. Once these tickets are gone, the price increases to £120. VRFocus will continue to follow the event, reporting back with any further updates on it.
