Earlier this week cinematic virtual reality (VR) company Jaunt released its first movie-based VR experience for the Google Cardboard smartphone-based head-mounted display. Titled The Hobbit VR Experience, the app is based on Peter Jackson’s popular Middle-earth movie saga, which itself is based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s books. Now the first screenshots of that experience have arrived, and can be seen below.
The images grant a look at the setting of this short 360 degree piece, in which viewers follow Gandalf, the iconic wizard portrayed in the films by Ian McKellen, as he walks around the peaceful setting of The Shire, setting off fireworks. The film was first revealed at the premiere for the latest movie in the series, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
Jaunt has had a busy few weeks with VR releases, having also launch several music-based experiences such as performances from Sir Paul McCartney and Jack White. VRFocus will continue to follow the company’s work, reporting back with any further updates.
