Ethereon Gets Updated DK2 Demo, Myo Support

Virtual reality (VR) fans that have been following the technology and its supported software closely will have no doubt heard of VR puzzle-solving title Ethereon long before it launched a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign last month. Earlier in 2014 indie developer Innervision Games released a demo for the experience using the Oculus Rift head-mounted display’s (HMD) first development kit (DK1). This week the developer has updated that demo, now including support for the Oculus Rift’s second development kit (DK2).

The updated demo has been released to Kickstarter backers. Named The Gateway, the demo showcases the beginning of the first episode of the videogame, leading up to the first puzzle. These puzzles have been specifically designed with VR in mind, taking full advantage of the technology as players journey through a surreal aquatic world, meaning fantastical wildlife and taking in sights. Given that the demo is releasing to all backers, a new demo will be coming for those that pledged $35 USD or more to secure early access to Ethereon.

At the same time as releasing this demo, Innervision Games has revealed that Ethereon will be supporting the Myo wearable gesture control device from Thalmic Labs. “As part of our ongoing effort to incorporate the most advanced technology into Ethereon,” the developer stated, “we’ve recently decided to include support for this amazing new gestural input device from Thalmic Labs called the Myo.” Myo works be strapping on an armband that tracks movements.

“We’re very much looking forward to working with the team at Thalmic to come up with some awesome new ways to enhance the interactive experience of Ethereon using this very cool Myo device!”

Ethereon‘s Kickstarter campaign is hoping to raise $35,800 USD by 21st December 2014 to launch on PC with support for the Oculus Rift. A further stretch goal of $199,000 teases support for the PlayStation 4 and its Project Morpheus VR HMD. Those interested in the title can pledge $25 to secure a copy on PC. Should the campaign prove successful then the title will launch in November 2015. VRFocus will continue to follow the title, reporting back with any further updates on it.
